Trompe
l'oeil is a French word meaning visual deception, esp. in paintings
in which objects are rendered in extremely fine detail emphasizing the
illusion of tactile and spatial qualities "trick of the eye".
When this type of painting is used an object appears to be real such
as a vase or a window. The painting is commonly done on a wall or a
piece of furniture and is intended to fool you into thinking that you
see something you don't.
Faux
finishes are painted finishes that look like marble or wood. These
finishes also include wall finishes using glaze coats such as rag rolling,
sponging, strie' and a hole host of decorative finishes.
A
dual image mural is a mural that has an invisible image painted
on it. This invisible image is painted with UV sensitive paints. These
paints are either clear and can not be seen or they are white and are
layered into the white on the visible image. The visible image is the
painting you see when the lights are on. When the lights are turned
off and black lights are turned on the second image appears. Regular
paints show up black under UV light so the image that is painted with
this paint becomes invisible at this point or is used to silhouette
against the UV paint. This type of mural is some what tricky to paint
but by far the most interesting and fun to do.
